Travel from Vancouver to Nanaimo (Duke pt. or Departure Bay) then drive North to Comox. Approximately 1 hr. - 1:20 min drive
Once in town it is recommended to have your own or rent a vehicle. Otherwise you can use Ambassador shuttle or local taxis.
1. You must bring a paper copy of your saltwater fishing license or download the fish bc app and have a linked digital copy.
The only way to purchase a license is online or at Gone Fishin in Courtenay. I suggest purchasing a day or 2 before your charter as the system can sometimes be tedious and require you to phone in. Unfortunately we cannot get one for you nor can we print them for you. I suggest purchasing at least a 3 day or year license (they're cheap) if purchased in advance incase of poor weather and we can move your date. Children under the age of 16 do require a license even though they are free. If your dependent does not have an email address you can use yours. You will have to create a second password/account for that.
2. A lunch and preferred drinks (alcohol in moderation is ok) - avoid bringing a large cooler.
3. Dress for the weather, on the Coast weather is variable and can change every 20 mins
4. Sun screen (Tip: please try and base layer before boarding vessel) Please avoid bringing spray on sunscreen. It's dangerous on the boat and hard on the gear.
5. Please bring clean, mark free footwear
I will contact you the day before your fishing charter with departure details and to confirm a departure time. Departure times are usually around 7/8am and 1/2pm . This will be decided on the weather, tides and fishing report to ensure you have the best experience and success.
Directions to the boat:
1. We are located at the Comox Fisherman's Wharf, 121 Port Augusta St, Comox, BC V9M 3N8
2. By looking up Island Pursuit Sport Fishing on Google Maps it will take you right to our Dock spot in the marina.
The Mill in Comox is a great coffee shop and is close to the boat. They have excellent coffee, breakfast sandwich's and lunch options.
There are many grocery store options that have a good pre made sections such as: Hugh's independent in Comox and Thrifty foods.
Included in your fishing charter is legal fish cutting, such as gutting or a simple filet and good fish bag.
The Butcher's Block offers same day vac packing only of your catch. Butcher's block will not cut or process your fish further than you give it to them, they only Vacuum pack your fish as a favor to Island Pursuit. You can receive your catch the same day, 2024 cost of $3 per bag, please allow 1-3 hrs for preparation of fresh product. Hours 8:30-5:30 Mon-Sat, closed Sunday and Holidays. As they are a very busy shop please avoid calling them with questions beforehand. Talk to us about it on the boat and show up there after. www.thebutchersblock.ca
Best Options To Transport Your Catch
Take it with you - is common and recommended if you're visiting from North America by car or plane. Please try not to stress or plan this in advance too much. It might lead you down a rabbit hole thinking it's very difficult. It's not, and very common we do this all the time. It will be best to know the options then we will figure it out once you're here.
Included in your charter
We will
- Catch the fish
- Gut (whole fish) or filet your fish
- Give you good bag for transportation
You can
1. Put the fish in a cooler and transport it with ice for a few days. (Travel by car)
2. Take the fish to the Butcher's Block. They will vacuum pack and freeze (if time allows).
Most accommodations have somewhere to store your cooler or fish.
3. If you're flying, tape your cooler shut tight and check bag . If it is a smaller amount and flying to B.C or Alberta you can even just put it in your luggage or carry on.
4. Send it to a fish processor such as St.Jeans located in Nanaimo (all resorts use them) you can drive or transportation can be arranged via F.A.S delivery. You can get anything you want done to the fish then they will send it to you.
Tips
When flying you can't have ice. If transporting fresh you can have ice packs. If fish is frozen there is no need for ice packs.
You can get coolers, regular or Styrofoam at Canadian Tire and Walmart.
