Day Of Information

What to bring on your charter?

Fishing License

  • You must bring a paper copy of your saltwater fishing license or download the Fish BC app and have a linked digital copy.
  • The only way to purchase a license is online or at Gone Fishin' in Courtenay. I recommend purchasing your license a day or two before your charter, as the system can sometimes be tedious and may require a phone call.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot obtain or print a license for you.
  • I suggest purchasing at least a 3-day or annual license in advance (they're inexpensive) in case of poor weather—this allows us to reschedule your trip.
  • Children under 16 require a license (even though they are free). If your dependent does not have an email address, you can use yours, but you’ll need to create a separate password/account.

Food & Drinks

  • Bring a lunch and your preferred drinks (alcohol in moderation is okay).
  • Please avoid bringing a large cooler—space is limited.

Weather & Clothing

  • Dress appropriately! Coastal weather can change every 20 minutes.

Sun Protection

  • Apply sunscreen before boarding.
  • Avoid spray-on sunscreen—it’s slippery and damages the gear.

Footwear

  • Wear clean, non-marking shoes to help keep the deck in good condition.

Housekeeping:

Scheduled Departure Time
Your fishing charter operates on a scheduled dock-to-dock basis. Please refrain from arriving at the boats earlier than 10 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. Our guides pay close attention to every detail and often run multiple charters daily. Arriving at the appropriate time allows us to fully prepare the boats to ensure you have the best experience possible.

Parking
Please park in the Town of Comox parking lot—the square lot straight in on Port Augusta, near the angled buildings and water park.

Gratuities
Fish guiding is part of the service industry, and gratuities are always appreciated for a job well done. Many guests ask about standard tipping amounts. A typical gratuity is:

  • 5-hour charter: $100–$150
  • 8-hour charter: $150–$200
  • Tax- and fee-free options are available at checkout for credit card payments. We greatly appreciate your business!

Payment
Payment is accepted via cash (CAD or USD), Interac Debit, or credit card at the end of your charter. You will be charged the remaining balance after your pre-paid deposit. Please designate one person to make the payment, and have your guests settle up amongst themselves afterward if needed.

Fishing Reports
For up-to-date fishing reports, follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We post daily updates whenever we're out on the water.

What time do we depart and where do we meet?

I will contact you the day before your fishing charter to confirm departure details and timing. Departure times are typically around 7–8 AM and 1–2 PM, but they may vary based on weather, tides, and fishing conditions to ensure the best experience.

Directions to the Boat:

We are located at Comox Fisherman's Wharf, 121 Port Augusta St, Comox, BC V9M 3N8.

You can find us easily by searching Island Pursuit Sport Fishing on Google Maps—it will take you directly to our dock.

What Happens to the Fish After We Return?

Your fishing charter includes basic fish processing, such as gutting or a simple fillet, and a quality fish bag for transport.

For vacuum packing, The Butcher’s Block offers same-day vacuum packing only. They do not further process or cut your fish—only vacuum seal it as a courtesy to Island Pursuit guests.

  • 2024 cost: $3 per bag
  • Processing time: 1–3 hours
  • Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Mon–Sat), Closed Sundays & Holidays
  • Please do not call them with questions—we can discuss it on the boat, and you can visit after fishing.

Best Ways to Transport Your Catch

Bringing your fish home is common and straightforward, whether by car or plane. Don't overthink it—once you're here, we’ll help you figure out the best option.

What’s Included in Your Charter:
✔ We catch the fish.
✔ We gut (whole fish) or fillet your fish.
✔ We provide a quality bag for transport.

Your Options:

  1. By Car – Keep the fish in a cooler with ice for a few days.
  2. Vacuum Packing & Freezing – Take your fish to The Butcher’s Block. If time allows, they can freeze it.
  3. By Plane –
    • Tape your cooler shut and check it as baggage.
    • If traveling within BC or Alberta, you may be able to pack a smaller amount in your luggage or carry-on.

  1. Storage at Accommodations – Most places have somewhere to store your cooler or fish.
  2. Professional Processing & Shipping – St. Jean’s Cannery in Nanaimo offers full processing (smoking, portioning, etc.). Resorts often use them. You can drive there or arrange transport via F.A.S Delivery, and they will ship your processed fish to you.

Helpful Tips for Flying with Fish:

  • No ice is allowed in your cooler. If transporting fresh, use ice packs instead.
  • If the fish is frozen, no ice packs are needed.
  • You can find coolers (regular or Styrofoam) at Canadian Tire and Walmart.

Let me know if you'd like any further refinements!

Booking Policies:

Fishing Charter Policies & Fuel Surcharge Notice

My goal is to provide fair and honest fishing charters while maintaining a first-class experience. Over the years, fuel costs and other essential services have increased. Given the current global fuel situation, your fishing charter fuel surcharge may be subject to a small adjustment between the time of booking and your charter date. Thank you for your understanding.

Payment Instructions:
Please kindly select "ATTACH YOUR CREDIT CARD" to the invoice.

Cancellation Policy:

  • Charters canceled more than 30 days before the reservation date will forfeit their deposit.
  • No-shows or cancellations within 30 days of the reservation date will be charged the full amount.
  • Cancellations due to weather are at the captain’s discretion. In such cases, we will first attempt to reschedule your charter; if that is not possible, your deposit will be refunded.

Refund Policy:

IPSF is not responsible for, and will not provide refunds in the event of:

  • Natural disasters, including forest fires
  • Changes in fishing regulations
  • Sudden health concerns

Regular terms will apply. However, as a courtesy, if an unforeseen event arises, please contact IPSF to reschedule your charter within the calendar year, subject to availability. If your travel plans are affected, we strongly recommend contacting your travel insurance provider.

Lunch options

The Mill in Comox is a great coffee shop and is close to the boat. They have excellent coffee, breakfast sandwich's and lunch options.

There are many grocery store options that have a good pre made sections such as: Hugh's independent in Comox and Thrifty foods.
